Hillary Clinton suggests
Americans read the Constitution under Trump at Oscar de La Renta stamp unveiling

Hillary Clinton took a
not-so-veiled shot at President Trump during a Thursday ceremony unveiling a
postage stamp in honor of designer Oscar de la Renta.
“Oscar de la Renta was an immigrant,
as Mike Bloomberg has said, and aren’t we proud and grateful that he was?”
Clinton said.
“What a fitting person to be
chosen by our Postal Service, mentioned, by the way, in the Constitution,
something we should read and re-read in today's times,” she added.
The comments, delivered to a
high fashion crowd gathered at Grand Central Terminal, drew thunderous applause
and howls of approval.
“Oscar de la Renta was an
immigrant, as Mike Bloomberg has said, and aren’t we proud and grateful that he
was?” Clinton said.
The new stamp collection was
rolled out on the final day of New York Fashion Week.
It includes a stamp featuring a
black-and-white portrait of De La Renta, along with 10 others that display
details from dresses and gowns designed by the late fashion legend.
The 82-year-old De La Renta
died in Oct. 2014 of complications from cancer.
In honoring the native
Dominican, Mayor Bloomberg also took a subtle swipe at Trump whose
controversial ban on immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries has been
put on hold by a federal appeals court.
“I hope that these stamps do
inspire other people to learn from him, look at the life he led, and use that
as a model,” Bloomberg told a crowd that included Vogue editor Anna Wintour and
the event’s emcee CNN host Anderson Cooper.
“And I also hope they remind
people the extraordinary contributions immigrants make to our city and to our
country every single day.”
